Janm Foundation is a not-for-profit initiative by friends Sheilza Bhatia and Smita Joshi in the area of sustainability. Sheilza discovered her passion for working with women at the grassroots and empowering them by creating livelihood opportunities for them after she visited Mewat, one of the most backward regions of the country, in 2013. Working closely with locals during her several visits to the region helped her empathize with the issues plaguing the people of Mewat. It and strengthened her resolve to work for women empowerment. She believes that gender inequality is a critical issue to be addressed, and to achieve a sustainable community, we have to empower women. Smita would like to see a sustainable environment where the choices that we are making today will have a positive impact on the planet tomorrow. She started with animal welfare initiatives way back in 2010 and since then has helped innumerable dogs, resolved human-animal conflicts and is running animal shelters, charitable clinics, and daily feeding .
